Parkside Needs You

  1. Are you concerned about what is happening in your area?
  2. Can you spare a couple of hours occassionally to help out with projects that benefit your local community?

Then why not join our committee? We are only a small group at the moment but there is a lot we could achieve if we had more members. Apart from the meetings we would like to organise more events such as the Dog Day, The Christmas Party, The Community safety Day and the Teenage Mural Project.
We will only ask you to give the time you can, there is no pressure to be more involved than you want to be. We are all volunteers with other commitments.

If you are interested in joining us please give me a call on 01582 618279 or you can e-mail me at secretary@parksidevoice.org.uk, or you can also contact ,me if you want to know more about who we are and what we are doing in the area.

Thanks

Parkside The History.

Can you help? I am trying to put together a history of Parkside for our website. I am looking for pictures of the area showing how it has changed over the years and your stories of living on Parkside. The estate was a new concept, having the houses built front to front with the road at the rear, as opposed to back to back, as many were used to in London. What were your experiences of the move from London? What was it like to have large open areas etc? We know the Estate was built in the late 60's early 70's for the GLC, were you involved in the building? Did you live in Houghton Regis before it was built?

I would like to build a time line showing when different sections were built, and include other local amenities and events that happened in the area, such as when The Dog & Duck opened, and when the carnival first started outside the pub. Were you involved in a street party and what did it celebrate? You can contact me by e-mail on info@parksidevoice.org.uk or by good old royal mail, Nick Grundy 8 Dolphin Drive, Houghton Regis, Beds. LU5 5QE. Please provide your address so I can return any pictures.

Thanks for all your help.
